In 2019 I was honoured to be awarded Associateship of the Photographic Society of New Zealand.
Application for this honour is the submission of a twelve image panel. Successful Associate portfolios exhibit advanced skills in a range of areas, including camera use; composition; awareness and use of lighting; processing and presentation. Importantly, they exhibit artistic qualities.
The Architecture of Summer Flowers
The images of this panel emerged as I explored a range of techniques, including focus stacking, the use of added light, and a touch of the creative composite as I carefully placed and arranged blooms; the choice of focal plane the key to revealing the natural architecture. The result, a variety of blooms, both colourful and luminous; a nod to the work of the classical water colour botanic artists, but with a modern nuance.
